How are plays selected?
Qualifying submissions are split amongst a panel of readers. Each submission will be read by no less than two readers. Each reader will select their own finalists. The selected finalists will then be read by the entire panel of readers and discussed until ten pieces are selected to be produced.
What if my piece doesn’t fit the theme of Nightshade?
Submissions that do not fit the theme in some fashion will not be considered.
Can I submit the same piece every year?
Technically you can until it becomes too old, or is produced somewhere else. But, in six installments, we have only selected a repeat submission once.
Will I be notified if my play is chosen or not?
Yes. We will notify all playwrights of their selection status after the panel convenes and makes final choices. This will not likely occur until near the end of the calendar year.
Do I receive royalties for my script if chosen?
Not currently. Memoriam is an organization that fights for artists of all forms to be paid. It’s why our goal for this to change some day, but we are not currently able to do so. But selected playwrights will receive two comp tickets to the show of their choosing as well as promotion on our social media.
Will this be available streaming or later as video?
As a tiny organization we do our best to balance our passion for theater with the obligations of day jobs and do not currently have the capacity to film, edit, and post performances.
How are actors paid?
Actors are guaranteed at the very least a stipend of $50, This is a minimum based on the history of ticket sales. The final pay will be determined by actual ticket performance.
If I am cast, will I be given tickets for friends and family?
Unfortunately no. As a large portion of revenue for both the venue and our actors pay comes from ticket sales, we are not currently able to offer that many comp tickets.
How can I share the event?
Sharing is best done via our social media. Links to all can be found here: https://linktr.ee/memoriam
